Quiz Help

If you are checking the blog page for information to help you with the quiz, you are in luck.
STEPS TO SOLVE VECTOR PROBLEMS
1. If vectors are going in the same direction, you add them.
2. If vectors are going in opposite direction, you find the difference.
3. If two vectors are at right angle to each other, you use the Pythagorean theorem to find resultant.
4. To find the components of a vectors, you use the cos and sin equations.
5. For multiple vectors, you need to use several steps. First examine the vector for directions. If the vector is at any angle other than 0, 90, 180, or 270; you need to use the component equations to break the vector apart. Second, you add the vectors in the same direction, then find the difference of the vectors in opposite directions. You are left with two numbers, those number are used in the Pythagorean theorem to find the resultant.

Free Fall and Time Dilation

Good Evening PRE-AP-er’s
We have completed Chapter 2 of our textbook. Tonight, we will be discussing free fall and time dilation. You may find information on these topics in section 2-3 in your textbook. Please read the section before joining the discussion. In addition, we are studying for the quiz on tomorrow, which will cover distance, displacement, speed, velocity, and/or acceleration. on tomorrow. Post your questions and one of your classmates or I will assist you.

Here are some things that crossed by mind. Submit your thoughts.

1. Look at picture 2-14 on page 60 and think about this. If the feather and the apple experiment were performed on the moon, where free-fall acceleration is approximately one-sixth the value of free fall acceleration on Earth, how would the picture compare with Figure 2-14?

2. Before Einstein published the special theory of relativity in 1905, physicists struggled with some contradictions in physics. The Principle of Relativity states that the laws of physics are the same in a reference frame. However, it did not allow for the fact that the speed of light is independent of the reference frame from which it was measured in. Read the section and explain in your own words why the passenger on the train (in the discussion page 66-67) measures a shorter time interval.

Here is a question to earn extra credit:
Two stones are thrown from a cliff at the same time with the same speed. One is thrown upward and one downward. Which stone, if either, will hit the ground first? Which stone, if either, will hit the ground with a higher speed? Make your best argument for you prediction. For extra credit on the quiz (10 points), set up an numerical example and solve it to test your predictions. Submit your example on tomorrow before 3pm.

Have a GREAT DISCUSSION!!!!!!!!!!

Pre-AP Physics Reading Assignment - Acceleration

Good Evening Class,
Tonight, you will be reading section 2-2 of your textbook, titled Acceleration. Pay close attention to the equations and graphs. We will be discussing this in class on tomorrow. Here are some general rules:
1. Your comment must be about the topic.
2. You may ask questions.
3. If you believe you know the answer to someone question, you may answer before I do. I will indicate if you are right.
4. Blogging ends at 9:30pm.

While you are reading get a picture of yourself riding on a subway train and imagine how you would feel as the train constantly accelerates (both positive and negative). What do you think is happining?

After reading, send your explanation of the following:

As a margle rolls down an incline plane, describe the motion of the marble at the top and bottom of the incline. If you increase the angle of the incline, what happens to the rate of acceleration? What is the maximum amount of accelertion for any falling object on earth?

Look at the graph on page 50, if the graph continues, the velociy would become negative. What does this indicate about the object?

I may not be able to answer all of the question tonight but will read them all. If not I will address them in class.

Okay, enjoy your reading!

7th Period - Yeah!!

You will be observing a video today covering universal gravity. You are to answer questions relating to the video or send questions to me about the video if you do not understand. Stay focus. This is a grade.

To My 6th Period Class

Okay guy, let's remain focused today. This may be challenging but you will be answering questions about a video on Universal Gravity. You may also send questions that you have concerning the video or other comments. KEEP IT CLEAN! This is a grade. At the dne of class we will take a vote to determine what precentage of the class enjoyed this activity.

To My 5th Period

Okay, this is the class that I brag about. Let's see how well you are able to accomplish this task without complaints. Today you will be blogging about a video on universal gravity. I will post several questions that you are to answers. In addition to answering the questions you may send questions to me or make a comment about another class members statement. Keep everything clean. Yes, this is a grade. Yes, all comments must be about the video.

Let's have fun!

To My 3rd Period

Okay, let's see if you can handle this without the driving me crazy. Today you are going to blog comments while watching and listening to a video about universal gravitation. For some of you this will be easy. For other it will be challenging. Make me PROUD! 1st period and 2nd period ROCKED.

Video Blogging

I have decided to use this blog page for my Physics Classes. To initiate the usage, we will make blog comments using an I-pod touch or a computer to my entries as we watch a video on Gravitational Attractions.
